Salad Tips And Skills

I have been reading a book lately about tips on how to get the best out of your vegetable salads. I know health buffs out there are dying for a serving of a green veggie salad to maintain their healthy lifestyle. Now, here’s something for you guys to enjoy your healthy meal.
- Salad greens and other salad vegetables should be stored correctly to retain their freshness and quality.
- Do not wash any vegetables before storing.
- Salad greens should be stored in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator.
- Root vegetables may be stored on a rack in a well-ventilated dark place.
- All vegetables and fruits must be washed well before peeling and cutting.
- Salad greens must be washed well in 2 to 3 changes of water to remove all dirt.
- Root vegetables need to be scrubbed with a brush under running water to remove all dirt, especially if you are going to cook them with the skin on.
- Leaves need be not be dried well before placing in the bowl. The dressing may not adhere to the leaves if they are wet.
- Crisp the salad leaves, roll up in a damp cloth and refrigerate for an hour or until you are ready to serve.
Those are very basic tips and I am quite sure those who have been making vegetable salads all their lives know these basic rules. As for the novice ones, remember those tips when preparing your very own vegetable salads.
